Modern Foreign Languages - French
Longford Park's aim is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages and to instill a love of language learning. Learning a second language offers children the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity and to develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them. By teaching French at Longford Park, our intention is that our children will feel confident and excited to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2 - ultimately we want to encourage children to become life-long language learners.
We teach French in Years 3 to 6 using the Kapow Curriculum. This is a 'spiral' curriculum, with key skills and vocabulary revisited repeatedly with increasing complexity, allowing pupils to revise and build on their previous learning. Cross-curricular links are included throughout our French units, allowing children to make connections and apply their language skills to other areas of their learning.
Through this teaching, we aim to give pupils a foundation for language learning that encourages and enables them to apply their skills to learning other languages, to develop a strong understanding of the English language, and therefore facilitate future study and open up opportunities to study and work in other countries in the future.

BBC Bitesize is a great website to practice the vocabulary we are learning in school:
