Keeping Your Children Safe Online
Welcome to our Wake Up Wednesday page! Here you will find advice, guidance and support for how to protect children in the digital space.
The guides on this page come from The National Online Safety branch of The National College and they are designed to encourage schools, parents, carers and children to ‘wake up’ to the extent of potential hazards facing young people online.
We know that children regularly use different apps and websites from the adults who care for them, and it can be hard to keep up in the rapidly-changing digital world.
We recommend that you talk to your child regularly about what they see online and encourage them to think critically and question what they see. Help them understand where they can go to get information they trust and talk about ‘fake news’, phoney profiles and scams. Help them develop a healthy suspicion of whether people are who they say they are.
Please show them how to report any worrying behaviour they see online – for example through Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command or the Internet Watch Foundation.
By working together, we can all help keep children safe and develop their own understanding of being safe and responsible when online.
We hope the resources on this page are helpful – remember to keep checking for new articles uploaded each Wednesday!
